One of the largest temple complexes in Gujarat the Akshardham Temple of Gandhinagar is constructed by the BAPS (Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha) with the blessings of Pramukh Swami Maharaj. Pramukh Swami Maharaj is the main Guru of the BAPS organization and The BAPS was established by Shastriji Maharaj in 1907. Established in the year 1992 the Akshardham Temple of Gandhinagar is dedicated to lord Swaminarayan. There is a big idol made of gold of lord Swaminarayan. The temple is measures 240 feet in length, 131 feet in width and 108 feet in height. The Akshardham temple is made by using 6000 tonnes of pink sandstone with more than 1000 artisans and it is famous for its Intricate architecture and various exhibitions. In September 2002 this temple was attacked by the terrorists after that BAPS is made high securities in temple.

This temple has over 100 pillars, balconies, a podium and around 17 domes also more than two hundred windows. There is water show, which will be an excellent show outside the temple and this sound and lights show with laser and animation was just superb, no one should miss it. Sahajanand exhibition hall, Sat-Chit-Anand and hall of Nityanand are other main attraction of this temple. Sahajanand Van is a garden around the temple. We can see the history of lord Swaminarayan by a short film which is done by water and light, this show is an excellent. Your tour of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will be incomplete without visit of the Akshardham.
