Idukki Dam is 554 feet tall and 650 metres wide which is constructed between the two mountains also it is world’s second and Asia’s first arch dam. The Idukki Dam is an arch dam constructed across the Periyar River. The Idukki hydroelectric project is built and managed by Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and was commissioned in 1976 by Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The total cost of this project was Rs. 107.5 crore and purpose to make it for Irrigation and Electric Power Generation. The stored water is used to produce electricity at the Moolamattom Power house, which is located inside nearby rocky caves.
