Nalanda University is located about 89 km from Bihar state capital city Patna in India. Nalanda University is exactly locate in village called the Bada Gaon which is situated at the Southeast of Patna. Nalanda University was established during the Gupta Dynasty. A UNESCO world World Heritage site Nalanda University founded in the 5th Century BC also visited by the Buddha during his lifetime. University of Nalanda ruins are spread in an area of 14 hectares which show that the campus of the university was widespread. Other than the study of Buddhism in the university of Nalanda learned the Vedas, Philosophy, life sciences, medicine, and natural law. University had also 10 temples and many classrooms with meditation centers and a big library. In the 7th century AD it was visited by the Chinese scholar Xuanzang at that time University held some 10,000 students and nearly one thousand faculty members coming from Sri Lanka, Tibet, Java, Sumatra, and Surinam.

The University of Nalanda, established during Gupta Period, was a center of international repute and a residential university more than ten thousand students. Nalanda is a part of the Buddhist circuit. An International Center for Buddhist Studies was established here in 1951. Library of the Nalanda University was divided into three buildings Ratnasagara, Ratnadadhi and Ratnaranjaka. It remained as a best university for a long time until Bakhtiyar Khilji destroyed it. Nalanda is known for its oldest university of human kind. It was a great center of learing during the ancient times.
