Nehru Zoological Park was inaugurated on 26 October 1959 and opened to public in 1963. Nehru Zoological Park got developed as Modern Zoo with a complete natural environment. The Nehru Zoological Park contains wildlife and nature spread out over 380 acres or 104 hectares of total land of park making it one of the largest animal parks of India. The park is in the outskirts of Hyderabad. The park has recently taken up green initiatives so does not allow private vehicles inside the park. There is a toy train and battery operated vehicles to go around the zoo park. Tourist can enjoy almost 1,500 species of birds, animals and reptiles in the park like Indian rhino, Asiatic lion, tiger, panther, giraffe, gaur, deer, antelopes, orang-utan, crocodile, python, wolves, jackals, foxes, hyena etc. Hyderabad zoo also runs different safari trips every day like Lion Safari, Tiger Safari, Bear Safari and Butterfly Safari. Visitors can also enjoy Other attractions include elephant rides, a natural history museum and a children’s train. The Nehru Zoological Park is run and managed by the forest department and government of Andhra Pradesh and named after the first prime minister of the country Jawaharlal Nehru. The Mir Alam Tank in the Park is a haven for migratory birds, who use the surroundings as a nesting ground. There is a Battery driven Transport available for Rs.50/- which takes a round of the park in 45 minutes and most of the area are covered in that. Guest House is available for tourist and it can be booked in advance at the Director’s Office. Nehru Zoological Park is a wonderful destination for a family picnic, especially for kids.
