The Mahakali or Kalimata Temple is one of the most popular pilgrimage destinations in Gujarat. Located 50 km from vadodara on halol highway in Pavagadh town Kalika Mata Temple is considered to be one of the oldest temples in Gujarat. This temple considers as shaktipethas of Goddess mother shakti. The toe of devi sati was fallen here. The three main Shakti Peethas of Gujarat are Ambaji at Arasur, Bala at Chunval and Kali at Pavagadh near Champaner. The temple complex is part of the Champaner-Pavagadh archaeological park which is a World Heritage Site declare by UNESCO. The Temple of Mahakali Maa over Hill and has facility of ropeway to reach the top. The two stories are created in the temple the mother goddess Kali idol is located in the lower floor and the upper floor is a holy place for muslims. The temple has large fortifications and an open chowk in front, with two altars for sacrifices, and an array of lights for special occasions. The main deity of this temple is Goddess Kali worshipped as a form of Goddess Durga who is red in color painting in the form of a head called as mukhwato.

Pavagadh ropeway (Udan Khotala) to reach Mahakali temple
One can reach the ropeway till Maachi on Pavagadh hill by road from where the ropeway one has to climb further for about half-a-kilometer to reach the temple. The ropeway operated by Usha Breco Ltd will now reach to merely about 30 to 40 meters from the temple. The ropeway has a capacity of carrying 400 persons per hour. Udan Khotala is operating here from Manchi to the hill-top near the Maha Kali Temple. It’s taking about 6 minutes to reach.

The temple has three images one is Kalika Mata second is flanked by Kali and last is Bahucharamata. The main celebration held at temple on Chitra sud 8 day. On that day a fair is held at the temple which is attended by lots of devotees. The Kalika Mata Temple dates back to the 10th and 11th century and is considered to be one of the oldest temples in this area. The Kali yantra is also worshipped at the Kalika Mata Temple. This temple is very good holy place and also good must visit place for tracking as picnic. Champaner Pavagadh Archaeological Park, Pavagadh Hills, Sadanshah Pir Dargah, Kevada Masjid are other place to must visit nearby temple.
