Rajwada Palace was built-in 1747 A.D. by founder of Holkar dynasty Malhar Rao Holkar. So this place is also known as Holkar Palace. After the death of Indira Gandhi in 1984 it was burned in the riots. After death of Malhar Rao Holkar in 1765 A.D. his daughter Ahilyabai had inherited of this palace. At Rajwada palace of Indore the main attraction are beautiful gardens, fountains and an artificial waterfall within the premises of the palace. Located center of Indore city Holkar Palace is spread area in 6175 sq m with height of 29 meters, 918 feet long, 232 feet wide and 6.70 meters high. Malhar Rao Holkar second spent four million dollars that time to build this palace. The gateway of palace is attractive and structure is like the Hindu-style palaces with construction of the seven floors with beautiful framed windows. The first three floors of the Rajput style of stone and wood floor manufacturers. The remaining four floors are typical of Maratha style.

Rajwada stands amongst the crowded streets of the Kajuri Bazar and faces the main square of the city. Divided into 2 parts the rear portion is a temple with free entry. The rear portion was destroyed some years back and is now rebuilt. The building was three storeys in part except the eastern part of which were several chambers.
