Situated almost in the centre of Indore city the palace is a mark of royalty and also reflects the culture of Indore city. Built between 1886 and 1921 on the banks of river Saraswati Lal Bagh Palace was surrounded by beautiful lawns and trees, spread over an area of 28 acres. It is a three storey building and it was built by Maharaja Shivaji Rao. It was commissioned by Tukoji Rao Holkar and was completed by Shivaji Rao Holkar at a cost of Rs. 1.5 lacs. Tukoji Rao Holkar was the last king to reside in this palace until his death in 1978. The LalBagh Palace is a unique blend of Renaissance, Palladian and Baroque styles of architecture. The palace talks everything about Holkar family. You can see beautiful furnitures, bathrooms and dining and living rooms inside the palace.

The palace is a classic example of the architectural brilliance of the Holkar Kingdom. The main purpose of building the palace was to make a meeting place of the important personalities of the Kingdom and for holding the celebrations and royal reception. Carving on the walls and ceiling of the palace remains and coin museum is also must see in the palace. It has huge open area because of that most of the events happens here like Circus, Jatra festival, Melas etc. People used to come here in the morning for walk, running and doing exercise.
