Rath Yatra is celebrated many parts of India, but the Puri and Ahmadabad’s Rath Yatra celebration are most famous around India. The grand celebration starts on the day of the wrath Yatra festival. Ahmedabad has been celebrated this festival for more than 130 years. The festival is dedicated to the three Great deity’s Krishna as Lord Jagannath, Balarama as Balabhadra and Subhadra who is a sister of Krishna.
The sacred procession starts on the day of Rath Yatra from the Jagannath temple in Jamalpur area in Ahmedabad and passes a 14 kilometer route through an entire city sensitive area such as Kalupur, Prem Darwaja, Delhi Chakla, Shahpur Darwaza, Dariyapur and Shahpur which are mostly Muslim area. The major attraction of the Rath Yatra is the highly decorated elephants. Up to 14 elephants are used for the Rath Yatra procession and all important rituals performed during the celebration. Up to 20 elephants, many trucks, various many religious groups, singing troupes, seven cars and three main decorated deity’s chariots take part in the procession.
