The Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery is a part Sayaji garden. It is located at Sayaji Baug complex and was established in 1887 by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III. It took 7 years to complete the building of this museum. Baroda Museum has impressive collections of various art and archaeology, history, geology and ethnology and all was founded by Maharaja Sayajirao. The museum and picture gallery was designed by the famous international architectures R.F. Chisholm and Major R.N. Ment. The building structure is the fine example of Indo-Saracenic style which looks amazing. The collection of paintings in the art gallery was imported from Europe. Due to the First World War it took so much time to transporting the collection of paintings the gallery was opened during 1921 even if it was completed in 1914. The Total area of the museum and picture gallery is 40,000 sq. ft each which is very large size. Both museum and picture gallery building is separate two storeyed structure which are combined by a small bridge passage.
