Daksheswara Mahadev temple is a Holy Hindu temple located in the Kankhal village which is about 4 km away from Haridwar. Kankhal is a small town which is known for the Mahadev Temple. The temple is dedicated to Hindu trinity lord Shiva as Daksheswara Mahadev. Dax prajapati was the king and father of Sati who was the first wife of lord Shiva. The temple was constructed by the Queen Dhankaur in year 1810 and was rebuilt again in 1962. There is a very tall idol of great Shiva which welcomes every devotee who comes in to this temple. As per the famous history and tells great sati was a hard devotee of lord Shiva and she wanted to marry Shiva but her father didn’t like it. Finally, sati married to Shiva and her father organized a sacrifice or Yagna to insult Shiva. Dax Prajapati didn’t invite his son-in-law which could not bearable for sati and she got angry and ended her life by falling in the fire of the Yagna to keep her husband’s respect as it is. This place is now famous as sati kund now. Shiva got angry by lost his loving and faithful wife and cut the head of king dax prajapati and kill him but after realizing Shiva bring back dax’s life by giving him a head of goat. King Daksha understood his mistakes and apologized for his cruel behaviour to Lord Shiva. At that point Shiva declared that he will live in Kankhal during every shavan month. Daksheswara Mahadev Temple is a witness of that entire memorable incident.
