The name of the Park was given after Nana Rao Peshwa who played in the first War of Independence. The Nana Rao Park has much historical significance and it has witnessed many tragic incidents such as Bibighar massacre and Memorial Well. During Bibighar massacre, many British women and children allegedly for courtesan instigation in Nana Sahib’s court. They took after by the correctional activities by British officers of the East India Company amid the 1857 Indian resistance. That’s why the park was also famous as Memorial Well Garden. After, independence of India the park was renamed to Nana Rao Park.
