The Chamundeshwari Temple is a sacred Hindu religious temple situated on the eastern corner of Mysore city in the state of Karnataka in India. The temple is located at the 1000 feet height on the hills named Chamundi Hill, which is approx 13 km far from the Mysore city. The Chamundi Hill is very famous across the India and abroad as well. The Chamundeshwari temple is dedicated to goddess Durga. Durga is an incarnation of Shakti. Goddess Durga is believed to be the slayer of three demons named Chanda’ and ‘Munda’ and also ‘Mahishasura’. She got the name Chamunda after killing the demons. Durga is the prominent deity of the Kings of Mysore city. The temple has a statue of a demon and a big Statue of Nandi installed in the temple complex, which can be seen from a distance too. As per the Hindu mythology, there was a demon named Mahisarur who had ability to convert himself from human to a buffalo. Her mother was a cursed woman who was half buffalo and half woman. Mahisarur got a boon of immortality from Lord Brahma and become more powerful and took charge of heaven and earth. Then trinity lord incarnated a goddess who killed that demon and got name Chamundeshwari. The Chamundeshwari temple is a historic temple which great significant and legends which is over 1,000 years old.
