The City Palace is a splendid blend of the Rajasthani and the Mughal style of architecture. One of the most striking features of the complex is its richly decorated gateways. There are in total three entry gates to the complex, namely Virendra Pol, Udai Pol and the Tripolia Gate. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II was ruler of nearby Amer stay in Amber Fort. Due to water problems and population growth he shift his home to Jaipur. Then between 1729 and 1732 Maharaja built City palace designed by his chief architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya.
