Kalighat Kali Temple of Kolkata where the toes of the right foot of Sati fell during the Rudra Tandava of Lord Shiva is dedicated to hindu Goddess Kali. The idol of Goddess Kali is unique with gold-plated three huge eyes, a long protruding tongue and four hands. Kalighat Kali Temple was built by Sabarna Roy Chowdhury of Barisha in 1809. The present structure of Kali Temple was constructed about 200 years ago. The temple is built-in the style of traditional Bengal School of Architecture with a single large dome at the top. Originally a small hut, this temple was later built by King Manasingha in the beginning of 16th century.
