Krishna’s Butterball is a famous tourist attraction in Mahabalipuram which is a town located about 60 km south of Chennai. Mahabalipuram town near Chennai city is famous for its stone carvings.This monolithic granite rock is over 20 feet in height and 5 meter wide rock estimated to weight over 250 tons. This famous rock is known as Krishna’s Butter Ball in the last 50 years, although its original name is “Vaanirai Kal” means “Sky God’s Stone”.

Situated on a hill slope near the Ganesh Ratha at Mahabalipuram approx weight of the Krishna’s Butter Ball is 250 tons. This is a tourist attraction which shows how the law of gravity is defied. In a normal case a round shaped substance will fall from a sloppy surface, but in case of this butter ball, some gravitational force is involved. The rock is around 5 m in diameter and is resting on 45 degree angle and is famous spot among tourists.
